Aisha Jumwa freed
After spending four days in the cell, Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has been freed on a cash bail of 4M or a surety of the same amount.
Her assistant Geoffrey Otieno was freed on a 1 million cash bail or a surety of the same amount.
The two appeared before court on a Mombasa court to answer to a murder case. The two are accused of Gumbao Jola’s murder during the Ganda Ward by-elections last year.
On Thursday, the member of parliament and her assistant failed to take plea in the murder after there was a medical research mix up. They had appeared before High court Judge Njoki Mwangi.
Justice Mwangi questioned the validity of MP Jumwa’s report as it had the signature of a psychiatrist not recognized the court.
The office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) also failed to produce Mr. Otieno’s medical examination report, forcing the judge defer plea taking for a while.
The court was told that the MP’s medical report had a different signature as the previous psychiatrist had retired, leaving his colleague in charge.
The prosecution sought to have the plea taking proceed, a request that objected to, directing that the missing report be availed before the two are charged.
The two have been in custody since Monday.
