What’s the Fate of John Waluke?
Several leaders from Western Kenya have pleaded with President Uhuru Kenyatta to come to the rescue of Sirisia Mp John Waluke.
The leaders were led by former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale where they held a prayer meeting at Waluke’s home. Waluke has been jailed for 67 years or a fine of 727 million after he was found guilty of stealing Ksh 300 million in a maize scandal.
The MPs Benjamin Washiali (Mumias East), Fred Kapondi (Mount Elgon), Mwambu Mabonga (Bumula), Dan Wanyama (Webuye West), Charles Gemose (Hamisi) and Malulu Injendi (Malava) pleaded with the president to help secure Waluke’s freedom.
During the meeting, the mp’s raised an amount of money which the family said would be used for an appeal by Waluke’s lawyer.
Waluke’s wife, Roselyne Waluke had also started a pay bill that was helping them raise funds and so far they had managed to raise Ksh 250 million.
Waluke was jailed alongside Grace Wakhungu, former Vice President Moody Awori’s sister, who had reportedly raised Ksh 800 million within one month.
The two were sentenced to 67 years with a Ksh 707 million fine and 69 years with a Ksh 727 million fine respectively, after being found guilty of corruption.
