Who is President Uhuru’s successor in the Mt. Kenya Region?
Cabinet secretary for health Mutahi Kagwe together with ICT and Transport Joe Mucheru and James Macharia respectively yesterday held a meeting whose agenda was President Uhuru Kenyatta’s succession.
The meeting was hosted by Embu senator Njeru Ndwiga at his home in Rwika, Mbeere south.
The meeting was a continuation of the search of who was to be President Uhuru’s Successor in the Mt. Kenya Region.
Other leaders in attendance included interior principal secretary Karanja Kibicho, Kiraitu Murungi, and Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga.
Apparently, no member of parliament or MCA from the region was in attendance.
The meeting comes days after senate majority whip Irungu Kang’ata endorsed former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth as President Uhuru Kenyatta’s successor in the region.
“If the president wants to reconstitute his Cabinet, let him consider one of us who is Peter Kenneth. We are rallying behind him. We know he can do a good job,” noted Kang’ata.
The Murang’a Senator made a u-turn after earlier warning Kenneth against engaging in succession politics citing the timing not being right.
A similar meeting led by National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi had also been held on Wednesday in one of the hotels in Nairobi.
Present in the four-hour meeting was Governors Kiraitu Murungi (Meru), Ndiritu Muriithi (Laikipia) Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru), Amos Kimunya (National Assembly Majority Leader), Peter Kenneth (former Gatanga MP), Senator Charles Kibiru (Kirinyaga) and Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki.
